Poultry Project
Plans are in place for a Poultry Project that will see the construction of a poultry house to house 400 laying hens in Ongeche. Two community members will be trained to manage the project. Eggs will be sold to restaurants and markets in surrounding regions to generate income from the project. It is planned to develop the project such that a surplus of eggs will be available to provide to the local school to facilitate a student feeding program.

Providing safe, clean drinking water
Currently, the people of Ongeche must walk several kilometers to fetch water from the river. The water is contaminated and leads to the spread of water-borne diseases. Children are usually assigned the task of fetching water for their families, and may miss school due to the time it takes to collect the water.

Piye have plans to install an appropriate water system (bore-hole or water well) for the Ongeche community. Firstly, a feasibility assessment will be carried out and a detailed estimate will be prepared. Consultations have begun with a representative from the Nyanza District Public Health and Sanitation Unit.
