ONGECHE PROGRAM
The Ongeche Program will address the needs identified in the Needs Assessment in four phases.
Phase 1a: Income generating activities
This phase encompass several income generating activities. These include:
- Goat rearing
- Poultry keeping
- Tree planting
- Value adding to the farm produce eg. jam, tomato paste and juice making, dairy goat and poultry feed manufacturing
- Other income activities as identified by the community
Phase 1b: Student sponsorship
- This phase involves the sponsorship of primary and high school students.
Phase 2: Providing safe, clean drinking water
- Installing an appropriate water system.
Phase 3: A Primary health care clinic to provide:
- Deworming
- Malaria nets for malaria prevention
- Immunisation
- Maternal and child health care
- Testing and treatment of anaemia and water-borne disease
- Testing, counselling and provision of Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) for HIV/AIDS care
Phase 4: The community centre which will have several functions such as:
- Train community/village healthcare workers
- Run a school feeding program
- Provide a day care centre for orphaned children (pre-school)
- Function as a vocational training centre
- Improve sanitation
- Run a research unit to collect public health and social survey data
- Other activities as identified by the community
